Kiwi.com alternative: compare flights without a service fee or a self-transfer

Kiwi.com is useful when no airline will sell the connection. For a normal fare, compare the flight on Holipay and keep the contract with the airline.

Kiwi.com alternative: compare flights without a service fee or a self-transfer

A Kiwi.com alternative is a way to compare flights where the airline or the agency takes your payment, and nobody stitches two tickets into a trip the carriers will not protect. That is the search behind "kiwi.com fees," "kiwi.com self-transfer," and "is kiwi.com safe." Holipay is the comparison desk for the fare you mean to fly.

A self-transfer is two tickets. The airline on the first flight does not owe you the second.

What Kiwi.com does after you pay

Kiwi.com logo Kiwi.com does not hand you to the airline and step away. Kiwi's own help page says they reserve the trip for you, often with a temporary email and payment details, so they can manage extras and changes. You authorise them to receive the airline's messages. Important ones are passed on by email, SMS, or a direct contact.

That arrangement has a refund consequence. Because Kiwi pays the carrier from its own side, refunds — including some claims under EU passenger-rights rules — can land with Kiwi first and only then be forwarded to you. Kiwi says this can take longer. On some airlines your name and the reservation code are enough to check in. On others you manage the booking, including check-in and refunds, inside the Kiwi account, because the credentials are not yours to see.

The cheap row is often two tickets

Kiwi's signature result is a self-transfer: separate tickets joined into one itinerary. Their example is New York to Prague sold as New York–Amsterdam plus Amsterdam–Prague, because the two tickets undercut a direct fare. The airlines did not offer that connection. They will not take responsibility for it.

During the layover you may have to leave the secure area, collect a bag, check in again, and satisfy the visa rules of the country you are only crossing. If the first flight is late, the second airline owes you nothing: no new seat, no refund for the flight you missed. Kiwi recommends buying their disruption cover for that gap. If the connection is too short for a bag to be rechecked, they will not sell you checked baggage at all, and they say that limit is visible before you pay.

A Ryanair leg adds another step. Kiwi's Ryanair note says that after you pay you are sent to Ryanair to confirm those flights within 30 minutes. Miss that window and the booking is cancelled and the payment refunded. Hit it, and Ryanair emails its own confirmation while Kiwi confirms the rest.

Guarantee Flexi pays credit, and the fees stay with Kiwi

Guarantee Flexi is optional protection, not a free feature of the search. If you cancel, Kiwi refunds 100% of the ticket price as Kiwi.com Credit. Their fees, and extras such as bags and seats, are not refundable. You can cancel up to 48 hours before departure. Book within six days of the flight and that window shrinks to four hours before departure. Credit you can only spend with Kiwi is a different object from cash in a bank account.

Their help center also lists hidden-city itineraries among its travel hacks: a ticket whose last city you do not intend to reach. Airlines treat that as a broken fare. They can cancel the rest of the trip and close the account. Compare the city you will actually fly to and from.

On a normal nonstop, Kiwi's trick of combining airlines is idle. You still pay them to stand in the middle.

Where a Kiwi.com alternative fits

Holipay compares 500+ airlines and agencies and adds no markup. You pay the provider on their site, so the reservation, the card charge, and a schedule change stay with them. Eligible bookings can earn flight cashback, with a public ceiling of up to 10%. Most fares pay less than the ceiling. The figure on a result is an estimate. The wallet credit, after the partner confirms you flew, is the number you can withdraw. There is no membership. Payouts are in euros, to PayPal or a bank, once the balance reaches €100.

Read the provider name on the row. If that name is Kiwi.com, you are back in their checkout, fees and self-transfer rules included. Cashback does not insure the connection. For a nonstop or a connection the airline sells on one ticket, prefer the row where the provider is the carrier or a straightforward agency. The same caution about unprotected connections shows up on Holipay vs Skyscanner.

A search order for this kind of fare

  1. If Kiwi is showing a self-transfer, note the airports, the layover, and whether a bag is even allowed.
  2. Search those cities and dates on Holipay cheap flights, and include the bag you will travel with.
  3. If a single ticket is in the same band, book that provider. The cashback estimate is a bonus on a ticket someone will rebook.
  4. If the only workable price is the stitched one, buy it with your eyes open: long layover, visa rules checked, Guarantee priced in, and a plan for the second ticket if the first flight slips.

People who want a calendar before any of this still do that job on Google. The split is in Holipay vs Google Flights. If the other tab is a renewing flight subscription, use eDreams Prime vs Holipay.

When Kiwi should stay the tab you book in

No airline sells the city pair as one ticket. The layover is long enough to collect a bag and clear the border you are crossing. You have priced the Guarantee into the fare, and you accept that a miss is your problem unless that cover responds. Holipay does not invent itineraries out of airlines that refuse to cooperate. It compares the ones that already exist, and it can pay you for booking them.

Questions this comparison keeps getting

Is Kiwi.com safe to book with?

Kiwi is a real company and the card charge is theirs. The risk is structural: separate tickets, a booking they manage for you, and refunds that may pass through them. Safe is the wrong word. Know which contract you hold.

Does Kiwi.com charge a fee?

The checkout can include Kiwi's own charges and paid extras such as the Guarantee, on top of the carrier fare. Changes after you book can add processing fees. Compare their final total with the airline's total, not with the first price on the results page.

Is Holipay a Kiwi.com alternative?

For comparing bookable fares and earning flight cashback, yes. For manufacturing a connection no carrier will sell, no. Use Kiwi for that narrow case. Use Holipay when a normal ticket exists.

When does Holipay cashback arrive?

After the partner confirms the trip, and once the wallet is at least €100. PayPal or a bank, in euros. The loop is on how Holipay works.
