One-way or round trip: which flight is actually cheaper?

There is no rule that one-ways are always more expensive. There is a search. Run it both ways before you build a trip out of two separate tickets.

One-way or round trip: which flight is actually cheaper?

A one-way ticket is not always more expensive than a round trip, and a round trip is not always the bargain. On many long-haul routes the return fare is priced as a package and two one-ways cost more. On many short European routes the airline sells one-ways as normal fares, and the return is just two of them added together. The only honest answer is to search both from your city and read the total.

Two one-way tickets are two contracts. A return is one. Price both before you decide which is cheaper.

Search both, then keep the smaller number you can live with

Holipay cheap flights has one-way and return on the same page. Set From to your city. Run the return. Then run the two one-ways, out and back, and add them. Holipay compares airlines and agencies and does not add a markup. You pay the provider. The lowest line in that search is the lowest among the fares it returned, not a promise about every seat on earth.

If the two totals are close, look at the rules, not the slogan. A return is one ticket: one change policy, bags that apply to the booking, and a connection the airline owns if they sold it as one itinerary. Two one-ways are two contracts. Miss the first and the second does not wait. That risk is the subject of separate tickets, not a reason to ignore a one-way that is genuinely cheaper for a simple out-and-back.

What you are actually comparing
Round tripTwo one-ways
Long-haul, traditional airlineOften the cheaper published fareSometimes higher, because each leg is priced alone
Short haul, low-cost airlineOften just the sum of two one-waysWorth pricing; it may match or beat the return
If the first flight is lateThe airline is on the hook for the itinerary it soldThe second booking does not care

Where people waste the saving

They buy two one-ways to "be flexible," then pay two change fees when the plan moves. They buy a return because it looked traditional, then discover the inbound is on a day they cannot fly and the change costs more than the one-way would have. They also forget the bag. A cheap one-way with a cabin bag added at the airport can lose to a return that already included it. That arithmetic is in the fare after the bag.

Holipay does not sell the ticket. Eligible cashback is paid in euros, to PayPal or a bank, from €100, after the partner confirms the trip. There is no membership. Compare flights and get cashback is the product in one page. How it works is the shorter one.

Are two one-ways better for a multi-city trip?

Sometimes, if you fly into one city and home from another. Price the pair, and do not assume the airline will protect a connection you built yourself.

Does cashback apply to one-ways?

It applies to eligible bookings, one-way or return. The rate depends on the partner. It is not automatically 10%.
